The Opportunity

The Family Safety Practitioner is a full-time, fixed-term (12‑month) role based primarily at Frankston and Sandringham, Bunurong Land, with some flexibility for remote work.

This position plays a vital role in supporting victim survivors of family violence. You’ll conduct ongoing risk assessments, develop safety plans, and support clients through short‑term, intensive, evidence‑based counselling and Family Safety Advocacy while working collaboratively with the Family Safety & Wellbeing team.

This is a meaningful opportunity for a skilled family violence practitioner committed to evidence‑based practice, high‑quality documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Provide short-term, intensive family violence counselling to adults and children impacted by family violence.
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Link clients with internal and external support services as required.
  • Ensure that the needs and safety of children remain the highest priority.
  • Provide phone‑based support to partners/ex-partners/family members of adults attending programs.
  • Liaise with the Family Safety & Wellbeing Leadership Team where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate professional documentation and comply with legislative and agency requirements.
  • Participate in research, evaluation, and reflective practice groups.

Our Ideal Candidate

You are tertiary‑qualified in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or a related discipline, and bring strong professional judgement, ethical practice, and a deep commitment to supporting victim survivors through trauma‑informed, evidence‑based interventions. You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment, working collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues to achieve the best possible outcomes for adults and children experiencing family violence. With excellent communication skills, risk assessment capability, and a focus on child safety, you deliver high‑quality, client‑centred support and maintain professional documentation. You are passionate about service excellence, continuous improvement, and ongoing learning ready to contribute your expertise while growing your career and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we support.
