Thank you so much for choosing Family Life to donate your preloved quality items. The following information will help you understand how and where you can donate. If you are unsure what is suitable a general rule of thumb is to ask yourself – “Would I give this to a friend or relative?” or “Would I pay money for this?”. Through the generosity of people like you, Family Life is able to support families, children and young people throughout the South Eastern region of Melbourne. All proceeds stay local, supporting the local community.
At the shop
Donate directly to Family Life’s Op shops anything that you can put in a bag and carry (of course we are always happy to help bring donations in from your car), for example clothing, shoes, bric a brac, toys, books etc. Please only donate during shop opening hours.
Call for a pick-up
For larger items or bulk amounts, the Family Life van is on the road from Monday to Thursday 10 am-3 pm. Pick-ups can be organised by calling our Warehouse on 95552174. We collect from Bayside, Kingston, and Glen Eira. If you are outside these areas give us a call and we will try to fit you in. Our pick-up service is managed by a team of volunteers. To assist them, we request that items are easily accessible and located at ground level wherever possible.
We can’t take everything
It’s hard to say “no thank you” to a donation however, we do need to refuse some items either because of legal requirements, or because the item is too big or too heavy or the item must be refused because it costs more to transport, repair or refurbish than it can be sold for in our Op Shops. If you are unsure, please call our warehouse on 9555 2174. Our staff will be able to discuss your items in more detail.
Items we cannot take include Baby furniture, mattresses, large or extremely heavy pieces of furniture, used carpet, and building material. Please keep this in mind when you are preparing to donate your items.
