Family Dispute Resolution

Separation brings many decisions and changes. Family Dispute Resolution offers a supportive space where you can work through arrangements together, especially for your children. With the help of experienced mediators, you can find solutions that work for everyone without the stress and cost of court proceedings.

About This Service

Family Life’s Family Relationship Centre offers Family Dispute Resolution services to the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula areas. Activities and tasks in Family Dispute Resolution include:

  • Listening to the other parent
  • Giving your child an opportunity to share their suggestions
  • Highlighting the issues that you would like to resolve
  • Exploring and testing a range of solutions
  • Putting joint agreements on paper in the form of a Parenting Plan

Is This Service for Me?

If you want to resolve disputes relating to your children and avoid going to court, then family dispute resolution is the service for you. It is compulsory to attempt family dispute resolution as an alternative to court where it safe to do so.

Before starting, we’ll ask you to complete an assessment to see if Family Dispute Resolution is the right option for you. If you need extra support, we can connect you to other services.

If eligible, we’ll arrange a meeting with an experienced mediator, where you’ll have the chance to share your views and discuss what’s important to you.

Once everyone has shared their thoughts, the mediator will help both parents create a Parenting Plan that suits your family’s needs.

How We Help

Family Dispute Resolution provides a less stressful alternative to court. You’ll work with a professional mediator who helps you communicate effectively and find practical solutions together. This gives you more control over decisions affecting your family’s future.

Your children’s wellbeing is at the heart of this process. We help you work through arrangements while keeping their needs in focus. This might include parenting schedules, communication plans, and ways to help children adjust to changes.
