Op Shop Highlight

Rosebud

My name is Marie Lopez. I’m the store manager of our beautiful Rosebud store which is located on the Mornington Peninsula, a beautiful holiday destination. In summer it’s buzzing with tourists and in winter we are blessed with visits from our locals. We have the best of both worlds here, that’s why we’re always smiling. Last month we introduced a new book room with a community puzzle on the go, It’s definitely becoming a social hub and we are very proud of this space.

When we asked Jeanette, one of our wonderful volunteers, a few questions about the store, she replied:

What makes your op shop special or special to the area?
I think we’re essential to Rosebud. We see tourists as well as locals who like to come in and chat. Some comment on how lovely our shop looks and that our stock changes all the time.

What is unique about this store?
We have a great range of clothes, bric a brac, haberdashery and loads of books. We have just created a new library full of books, DVDs and CDs. Our locals love this room and make use of it every day.

What is the most interesting thing you have sold in the store?
Whoops! We sold a bag of lawn bowls by accident. The donor asked us to take everything from his car boot but he didn’t realise his bowls were in there toot. It made Channel 9 news with Tony Jones popping in to get the full story from us. We appealed to the community to return them, but couldn’t track down the buyer. Unfortunately, our donor never got his lucky bowls back, but was reimbursed the money from the sale.

Any other comments about the store?
I have been volunteering for over a year now and really enjoy the work. The staff are lovely to work with and it’s great to interact with the customers.
