Volunteer Profile - Chris from the DC!

Chris has been helping our Distribution Centre run smoothly for four years, making sure donations get where they’re needed most. And here’s a fun fact – Chris spent many years as an extra on Neighbours!

Thanks, Chris, for being such a valuable part of the DC Volunteer Team.

What inspired you to start volunteering with Family Life?
Initially I started volunteering after a friend told me about Family Life and the great work they do.

Can you describe your journey with Family Life so far?
I started volunteering with Family Life about 4 years ago once a week at the DC.  Volunteering with Family Life has made me realise how rewarding it is, albeit in a small way, that I can make a difference to families in need.

What would you say to someone who’s considering volunteering but hasn’t taken the leap yet?
It is a very rewarding thing to do.

Giving your time to help others can be very satisfying to know that in a small way you are making a difference to someone’s life.  It is also a great way to make new friends and have a bit of fun.

We heard you have a connection to Neighbours! Can you tell us a bit about that and how it ties into your journey with Family Life?
Yes, I have been an extra on Neighbours for many years now. It was always fun and exciting to be involved behind the scenes as well as on camera of this icon of Australian television history.

Along the way I have met some lovely people from different diverse backgrounds.

What does community mean to you, and how has volunteering helped you feel more connected to it?
Being involved with Family Life really makes me feel part of a community…It is a place where everyone contributes and looks out for one another.

Keep up with Family Life
