Volunteer Profile – Sanskar

What was your main motivation to volunteer?

I want to volunteer at family life because I want to feel part of the community and meet new people which can help me feel more connected/valued. Volunteering allows me to give back to my community and contribute to causes that align with my values. It provides an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop new skills while connecting with diverse individuals. Volunteering enables me to step outside my comfort zone and gain a deeper understanding of societal challenges. By dedicating my time and effort, I hope to make a difference in the lives of others and inspire others to do the same.

Where do you volunteer?

The organization I volunteer with is Family Life, a non-profit dedicated to building capable communities, strong families and thriving children. Family Life offers a range of services, including relationship control, family violence services and support of mental health. Their purpose is to transform lives for stronger communities. As a volunteer, I assist with the Cheltenham Opportunity shop.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

What I enjoy most about volunteering is the sense of purpose it brings. Knowing that my time and efforts are helping others gives me a deep feeling of satisfaction. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people and connect with my community in meaningful ways. I get to learn new skills and develop a greater understanding of different challenges people face. Volunteering allows me to make a positive impact while also growing personally. It’s fulfilling to be part of something bigger than myself and to contribute to making the world a little better.

What is the most unexpected memory / situation / donation etc ?

One of the most unexpected situations at Family Life was when an individual donated a large supply of lemons. It wasn’t a typical donation, but it brought creativity and excitement to the families we were supporting. It turned out to be a fun and refreshing addition alongside the usual essentials. The donation showed how something as simple and unexpected as lemons can brighten someone’s day and offer unique opportunities for people to come together and make the best out of what they have.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about volunteering?

Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a positive impact on others while gaining personal growth. It allows you to connect with your community, learn new skills, and meet people from different backgrounds. Even small contributions can make a big difference in someone’s life. It’s also a chance to explore your interests or support a cause you believe in. Beyond helping others, volunteering can give you a sense of purpose and fulfillment. If you’re considering it, take the leap! You’ll find it to be a rewarding experience that benefits both you and the people you serve.
