As well as volunteering at Family Life, Reg is an active member of RSL Beaumaris and the RSL Women’s Auxiliary, raising funds and community awareness of our veterans.
Reg has received Life membership of the Australian RSL Women’s Auxiliary and received her Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Queen’s Birthday list in 2021 – for service to veterans and their families.
Where do you volunteer? | I started at the Black Rock on Bluff Road and then to moved to the Distribution Centre during covid time. |
How long have you been volunteering at Family Life? | I have been volunteering with Family Life since 2016. |
Why did you decide to volunteer? | I had always been involved with RSL Beaumaris, and with the Beaumaris Womens (life member).
I am still an active member, we fundraise for the RSL, however once that slowed down, I was looking for something more regular. I then went to 2 days at the Family Life Distribution Centre – it is a great team at the DC, the Monday and Friday team. We are the same team of 6 girls – we love it. |
What do you do as a volunteer? | A the DC, I mainly sort and clear stock to move into the Op shops. |
What do you enjoy most about volunteering? | The people – they are like minded, people with the same goals and commitment – we support each other and get to know each other, we are all in there to help
We have a lot of fun, we get up to a lot of mischief – ha ha Poor Aaron We put in, we work hard, and we sort as much as we can |
What is your favourite volunteer memory? | I went to our new store in Rosebud and loved seeing it and meeting new staff – it was great to say hello to Tina (Carla was not there). |
What would you say to someone who was thinking about volunteering? | A volunteer needs to be interested in the organisation.
If you have the time to give and you are interested in people, go for it. My advice is: Try it out even for a short time! |
