Tootgarook Services Update – 2020

By Zoe Hopper December 19, 2019

Family Life owned and operated Tootgarook Community house for seven years.  Whilst operating, the house provided a safe and relaxed place for local people to make, maintain and grow community networks, friendships and a sense of belonging.

After careful consideration, and as a result of increasing operational and maintenance costs and reduced funding, Family Life made the hard decision to sell the property in late 2019.

We are pleased to be able to offer the following programs in the Tootgarook Community following the closure of the house:

Creating Capable Leaders Training

In the second half of 2019 Family Life engaged with the children at Tootgarook Primary School, offering counselling. Some of the issues raised as a part of this service delivery indicated there were incidents of anxiety amongst the school children. Moving into 2020, we intend to work with parents to empower them and hope to achieve better outcomes for them, which will impact positively on the children.

Creating Capable Leaders is a parent engagement strategy that supports parents to build their leadership capacity. It involves assisting participants to create and offer a school based project for the benefit of the students.

Mother Goose/Jive Jiggle Jump

Mother Goose and Jive Jiggle Jump are carer/child groups that supports the child’s communication, social and play development while the parent/carer meets other local families.

Jive Jiggle Jump group will commence on Tuesday 4 February from Rosebud Community Health Centre – 38 Braidwood Ave, Capel Sounds. Contact Simone Kendall (Peninsula Health) – 5971 9100.
