Brief summary of program purpose
Whilst many services exist for mothers, father’s often experience isolation and have difficulty accessing the support they require to create lasting, positive relationships. Promoting a father’s ability to connect in meaningful ways with their partner and children will enhance and promote strong, connected families.
Engaging Fathers aims to provide evidence based, practical tools and techniques to assist those who work with fathers, to engage and work productively with fathers of all ages.

- Promoting connection: To family and community
- The importance of attachment and impacts on children’s development
- Children’s developmental ages and stages
- Promoting fathers’ parenting capacity
- Understanding constraints fathers may experience in connecting to services and the family unit
- The role the ‘manbox’, historical stereotypes and family of origin play in men’s attitudes and behaviour
- Exploring fathers’ behaviour as a ‘parenting choice’
- Working effectively with men who are abusive

Best suited to:
This program has been designed to assist anyone who works with fathers on a regular basis and can be delivered in a range of formats dependent on the needs of the group. Training is delivered by qualified, experienced facilitators who will support you to learn how to work effectively and safely with fathers.
When:
This training can be delivered in a way that best suits the needs of your workforce. For example it can be delivered as one five hour program or two 2.5 hour sessions.

Where:
Training can be delivered online, at your workplace, at our centre in Sandringham or at an external venue of your choosing (dependent upon COVID-19 density quotient requirements).
Cost:
Cost is dependent upon the size and needs of the group, the method of delivery and the location. Please call us to discuss your training needs.
To ensure a positive experience for all, the maximum group size is fifteen.
Acceptance into this program is subject to minimum enrolment numbers being achieved and/or maximum numbers being reached. Family Life reserves the right to discontinue service should the facilitator deem a participant to be better suited to an alternative form of support.
